Servus Collection Wave Wooden Wick in Exotic Wood – 90 × 25 mm – Set of 20

Servus Collection
49,94 RON

The set contains 20 wicks. The metal stand is NOT included and is ordered separately.

A flat wick of exotic wood with a wavy profile, laser cut: 90 × 25 mm, 0.6 mm thick. For candles poured in containers.

Tested in the Servus workshop, with a single wick: soy 5.5–6 cm · granules 6–7 cm · paraffin 5–5.5 cm. Above these diameters, use two.

It is the widest in the range, but not the strongest: the wave burns along a winding line, and its range sits close to that of the 14 mm straight wick.

The set contains 20 wicks. The metal stand is NOT included and is ordered separately: you'll find it here. Without it, the wick won't stand straight in the container when you pour.

A flat wick of exotic hardwood, laser cut, with a wavy profile. Length 90 mm, width 25 mm, thickness 0.6 mm. It is the widest wick in the wooden range. Used for candles poured in containers.

The wave changes the burn line

A straight wick burns along a straight line. The wave wick burns along a winding line, longer than the distance between its ends. That is why it isn't compared by the width on the label: its 25 mm doesn't mean it burns twice as hard as a 14 mm one. Read the range in the table, not the figure on the packaging.

Sînziana says: “This is where most people go wrong: they see 25 millimetres and think they're taking the strongest wick on the shelf. That's not how the wave works. We've burned it and I'm giving you the figures below: they're close to those of the 14 mm straight wick, not double them. What you gain with the wave is the way the melt pool opens, not the size of the flame.”

Tested in the Servus workshop

The figures below come from our burn tests, with a single wick. They are starting points, not promises: the container diameter, the wax recipe and the amount of fragrance change the result.

Wax Container diameter, single wick
Soy wax 5.5 – 6 cm
Granule / sand-type wax 6 – 7 cm
Paraffin 5 – 5.5 cm

Above these diameters, move to two wicks. It works with container waxes (soy, paraffin, granules) and can be combined with the other shapes in the wooden range.

How it behaves in production

  • The width on the label isn't the burn width. The wavy profile spreads the heat along a winding line, and its working range sits close to that of the 14 mm straight wick.
  • The melt pool opens more evenly. The wave helps the wax melt evenly across the width, which matters in containers with straight walls.
  • Wood isn't a uniform material. The grain isn't identical from one piece to the next, and that shows in the burn. With each new batch, burn a test piece before a run.
  • The crackle depends on the combination. In some recipes and containers, the wick gives a gentle crackle, like wood in a fireplace. It happens often, but not with every wax and every diameter.

Fitting on the metal stand

The metal stand holds the base of the wick in the container and keeps it upright while you pour. It is ordered separately: Stable metal stand for wooden wicks.

Why we sell the stands separately. A wooden wick is cut to the height of the glass, and the offcuts make good pieces for smaller candles. The stands, on the other hand, get used up faster than the wicks. In the workshop we work with them separately, so we use the material right to the end.

What this wick doesn't do

  • It is NOT a wick for every candle. The same piece burns differently in different recipes. The range in the table is the starting point, not the verdict.
  • It is NOT the strongest just because it is the widest. The wave changes the burn line; its range is close to that of the 14 mm straight wick.
  • It is NOT a pillar wick. It is designed for container candles, on a metal stand. For candles poured in moulds, with stearin, go for the braided cotton wick.
  • The crackle can't be promised. It depends on the wax and the diameter.
  • It does NOT come with a metal stand. It is ordered separately.

Even when the dimensions are exact, the result depends on the container, the wax, the fragrance and the burning conditions. Before a large run, test on the final recipe.

The right-hand column isn't decoration. What says “measured”, we checked ourselves. What says “stated by the manufacturer” comes from the manufacturer's data sheet and we haven't tested it: we pass it on as it was given to us, with their name on it.

Step by step

  1. Start from the container diameter and the wax you are pouring. Ignore the 25 mm width as a guide to strength.
  2. Above the range in the table, use two wicks, equally spaced from the centre.
  3. Fit the wick on the metal stand before pouring and check that it stands upright.
  4. Cut the length to the height of the glass, with the wick already fixed.
  5. The burn test: light it and read it after 2–3 hours. The melt pool should reach the edge. Too small: move to two wicks. An unsteady flame that jumps: you have too much wick for that diameter.
  6. Change one variable at a time and note the batch, wax, fragrance and diameter.

In the tests carried out in the Servus workshop, this wick works at approximately 5.5–6 cm for soy wax, 6–7 cm for granule-type wax and 5–5.5 cm for paraffin. The final result can vary depending on the wax recipe and the fragrance concentration.

Wood is not a uniform material: the grain structure, the wood’s own oils and its moisture content (approx. 6–10%) can vary slightly. These differences can affect the size of the flame or the burn rate.

At a high fragrance concentration (above approximately 8% fragrance load), wooden wicks can become more sensitive and there is a risk of the flame “drowning”. In these situations, testing the capillarity and the stability of the burn is recommended before final production.

The wave wick is suitable for candles poured in glass, ceramic or metal containers. It is often used in decorative or scented candles where a wider spread of heat in the melt pool is wanted.

Yes, though in wider containers the flame can stay relatively small. For containers with a larger diameter, using two wicks can help form a more even melt pool.

Yes, and the metal stand is NOT included and is ordered separately. The set contains 20 wicks, without stands. The stand holds the base of the wick in the container and keeps it upright while you pour; without it, the wick leans in the still-soft wax. We sell them separately because the wick is cut to the height of the container and reusable pieces are left over, while the stands get used up faster.

In some combinations of wax and container, wooden wicks can produce a gentle crackling effect, like wood burning in a fireplace. This effect depends on the type of wax and the size of the container.
